First Post!

Hello everyone! We are new to blogging. I am going to try and get Jen plugged in and post some on here too.  We are going to try and keep this up to date every week or so (maybe more!) with the new things and such that are going on with us and the baby. So I guess I will go ahead and get started!

We found out 9 weeks ago that we were pregnant. It was on a whim that Jen asked that I stop and get a pregnancy test before we went on a weekend camp called Centrikids with our children at church. I got a 2 pack(thrifty with the money) and Jen took one when we got home. One line appeared and I thought nothing of it but then slowly a second line appeared! I was ecstatic! Jen didn’t believe it so she took the other one first thing in the morning. It came back with the same result! We were thrilled. And that was nine weeks ago.

Every Wednesday is a new week for the baby.  This week marks 14 weeks of pregnancy! We are so excited. I keep staring at Jen’s belly trying to make it look bigger because we are so excited. Jen has been feeling better lately with some days being worse than others. She has had more energy. She even made me oreo balls for my birthday!

Anyways, now for the segment I like to call “This week in Boo’s world” (copied from babycenter.com):

This week’s big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his/her facial muscles are getting a workout as his/her tiny features form one expression after another. His/her kidneys are producing urine, which he/she releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he’ll/she’ll keep up until birth. He/she can grasp, too, and if you’re having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him/her sucking his/her thumb.

In other news: Your baby’s stretching out. From head to bottom, he/she measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His/her body’s growing faster than his/her head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his/her arms will have grown to a length that’s in proportion to the rest of his/her body. (His/her legs still have some lengthening to do.) He’s/she’s starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his/her body. Your baby’s liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it’s doing its job right — and his/her spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can’t feel his/her tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist’s hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

Wow the baby is pretty active! Just to think that if we go to a grocery store and hold a lemon, we are basically holding our baby.  I haven’t stopped looking at baby furniture/clothes/toys/everything. I can’t wait to go to our classes and such and get everything going. Our next appointment is September 23rd which is in 2 weeks which means only 4 more weeks until we find out if we are having a boy or girl. I am pretty sure we have the names nailed down whether boo is a boy or a girl. At each of our appointments the Boo’s heartbeat has been 160bpm and 159bpm. There are a lot of old wives tales saying that if it’s higher then it’s a girl but I have also read vice versa. I don’t read too much into it since we only have 4 more weeks until we find out for ourselves.

Anywho, there will be pictures posted later of Jen’s belly and other random things later. Forgive me for not much material. Again, I am new to blogging. Here are a couple of pictures.

Good start to the blog! The heartrate thing, you can never really tell. Cole had a high heart rate at the beginning, and then settled in at around 140-150 bpm from about midway on. It was pretty consistently in that range every night. I knew he was a boy the second I saw that plus sign on the pregnancy test, though. Mother’s intuition. You know we’re here to help and give feedback if you have any questions about anything, since it’s all still fresh on our minds. We love you guys and can’t wait to find out whether we will have a new niece or a nephew!
